Manifesto: Why ECHO0 Exist
Technology is rapidly learning to speak.
But it is forgetting how to see.
As AI becomes voice-first by default, Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities are pushed further to the margins - not because the technology is impossible, but because it was never designed with them at the center.
We believe that is a choice.
And we are choosing differently.
Sign language is not a feature.
It is not a translation layer.
It is a living, visual language - rich in meaning, movement, and culture.
For decades, the world has tried to compress sign languages into text, captions, and voice equivalents. The result has been partial access, fragile systems, and constant compromise.
Not because Deaf communities lack solutions - but because the problem itself is deeply misunderstood.
Sign languages are spatial. They are contextual. They exist in three dimensions and unfold over time. Any system that ignores this will always fall short.
ECHO0 exists to build a different path forward.
We start where today’s technology allows us to start — not because it is perfect, but because progress requires movement.
“By starting with a smart glasses and text-based approach, you complete overlooking the cultural and linguistic depth of sign languages!”
Yes — and this is intentional. This is our first step, not the destination.
This is William Shaw ( one of the greatest Deaf inventors) first steps was.
“We believe that smart-glasses will be the next computing platform”.
Therefore we focus on future by doing tangible, small steps today.
The Plan
Step 1: A bi-directional-text-based, smart glasses AI system
Step 2: A bi-directional-avatar-based, smart glasses AI system
Step 3: A cross-platform AI system that lives everywhere — web, mobile, wearables, smart glasses, spatial.
“Why not build a cross-platform system from day one?”
This work is hard.
It demands patience, capital, and a long-term commitment to getting it right.
That is exactly why it matters.
Because accessibility is not a side problem.
It is a measure of whether technology serves humanity or leaves parts of it behind.
